The most popular sport in New Zealand is rugby. The local Super 12's rugby team is the Auckland Blues.

The Vodafone Warriors are the city's Rugby League team and games take place at the Mount Smart Stadium (formerly named the Ericsson Stadium) during the rugby season from April to September. Rugby Union is also played from April to September. The All Blacks are the national team and they play at several different venues in Auckland.

Other popular sports in Auckland include cricket and netball. There are six cricket grounds in this city, with the most prestigious of them being Eden Park, which has hosted international games since 1913. Horse racing events are also popular here, with the Alexandra Park Raceway holding night meetings on Friday and Saturday.
